La Zona +

This is the big area of the river in Uruguay that is home to some of the largest dorado in South America. The golden dorado can reach up to 50 lbs in size. Expect to catch up to 15 fish per day in the La Zona area of Uruguay.

Out of La Zona +

Takes about 15 mins to reach the dorado fish when fishing outside the La Zona area. Expect up to 25 dorado fish per day. The dorado in this area of the freshwater river are smaller than the ones in La Zona; however, you will catch fish.

Estancia Mercedes +

Located in the small town of Mercedes, Uruguay, this lodge caters to the dove hunting and Perdiz hunting. However, a private water source and the Rio Negro provide dorado fishing for a great combo trip that we call the Uruguay Cast and Blast.

A true paradise for anglers, La Zona is the fishing area that Uruguay residents tried to keep secret. This area of the Uruguay river that is close to the dam and is a small area in size, but large area for some trophy size dorado fish.

The accommodations for the Uruguay fishing is a hotel in Salto - Los Naranjos. The lodging (hotel) and meals are included with your Uruguay fishing trip by Los Gauchos Outfitters. The picture above (on the left is an image of the Dove Hunting Lodge that is a great addition to the dorado fishing in Uruguay.

The fishing is an all day event, with about 2 hours spent in La Zona and the rest of the time you will catch dorado in the area outside La Zona. Outside the La Zona area are fish that range in size from 2 lbs to 15 lbs and anglers can expect to catch up to 25 fish per time in the area outside the La Zona area.
